There are some activities for which Outside totally kicks Inside's ass. Running is one of those. Running outside is way more entertaining and breezy than running inside. I'd also add kite flying to this list, and hiking and probably skydiving. That's pretty close to the complete list though.
Do you know what's NOT on this list? Eating.
Man, almost everyone I know just goes freakin' nuts about eating outside and I simply don't get it. I will enjoy eating a meal outside on those very rare occasions when the temperature outside is exactly the same as the temperature that we work so hard to make it inside. Those other days, I'm just burdened with managing:
- Warming up because it's chilly, or sweating because it's too hot
- Swatting away bugs because BUGS ARE ATTRACTED TO FOOD (MY FOOD!)
- Carrying my food, drink, silverware, etc over to the great outdoors and then trucking all the garbage back inside
- Trying not to complain about eating outside

Amen brother!
I don't understand the urge to eat outside either. Not to say I don't like barbecues. But in that situation, I'm a "cook outside, eat inside" type of person. Away from all kind of bugs.
the bugs alone are enough to keep me inside. and the wind!! uuugh
Siôn, amen, brother. Barbecues are tasty, but they're best eaten indoors.
Hi Sour! I totally forgot to mention the wind and how you have to battle it to keep your food and implements around you. I hate battling for my food.
You'd make a terrible caveman.
Avery, I assume you're toking. Cavemen had CAVES to eat in.
I was referring to your "hate battling for my food" comment.
Ah yes, and is it too late to replace my "toking" comment with "joking"? I suppose either works, but I meant "joking".
I was doing neither. I'm a paragon of virtue.
You forgot two more:
wind
wet chairs
But I do kind of miss having lunch outside occasionally when the weather is perfect and the sun in shining. Can't bring myself to do it alone, though. I don't like it that much.
in all my years east of the mississippi, i've hated eating outside for all the reasons you've mentioned, but i will admit that during our recent vacation to san diego (heaven?), i found outdoorsy eating to be downright delightful.
Ms.PhD, I would suggest that your coworkers are too smart to eat outside, but from what I've read, I'm not going to say anything good about your workplace. :)
Yajeev, yep, once in a blue moon it's awesome. The other 99 times out of 100, it su-u-u-u-u-cks.
