Without further ado, I Am Prepared to Give Up at Any Time embarrassedly presents UC Berkeley's first episode ever on Family Feud's College Week. I've chopped the 22 minute episode down into about 9 or 10 minutes of YouTube footage below. It's still painful, but any less and you'd risk losing the multi-threaded complex narrative that is Family Feud.

For a description of Family Feud or how I got there, I'd encourage you to read the introduction I wrote a couple years ago.

Ok, here goes. (Apologies for including the same bit of footage from my last post.)

The first part of Family Feud is the corny "family picture" pose. I'm the awkward rhythmless guy on the left. Cheering is not my forte.

Then, the teams get introduced. Here's Albert introducing me to host Ray Combs, and the rest of the world.

"Computer whiz"? Thanks, Albert. I'll be sure to include this footage on my next resume.

Anyway, the game finally begins. Each team sends a person to the podium to quickly come up with the most popular answers to...

Since Stanford struck out before getting all the right answers, Berkeley has a chance to steal their points by getting one right answer...

"Getting walked to her front door" !! Am I a sweetheart or what? Can you believe I didn't date much? Me either. Anyway, regardless of my inability to woo the average American woman, we won that round.

Next question, Ray...

Okok, sure "Queen Elizabeth" was the bottom answer, but at least it was on the board, which is more than I can say for the two players at the podium, ONE OF WHOM KEPT LAUGHING AT ALL MY ANSWERS! I'm still bitter. Anyway, Berkeley is winning, 118 to 0.

Next up...ME!

THREE IN A ROW! Behind my brilliant answers, Berkeley is winning 266 to 0! The game ends at 300 points, so all we need is just...one...more...

Well, Stanford runs the table on the next question, which was worth triple value, bring their score up near ours. It all comes down to the final question....

Crap. Cornbreaded crap on a stick. So we lose to our rival school. Big deal. Thankfully, there's an ENTIRE OTHER EPISODE where we play a much stupider school, USC. Stay tuned for more footage of Brett lamenting my usually-correct answers....

Fantastic stuff! A few points I picked up on...
1. Why all the clapping after giving an answer? Calm down people...
2. Brett is an arse...A complete arse.
3. Movie theater is a much better answer than skating rink.
4. Did you say "You were great Ray" at the end when he shook your hand?

Are you the one who said "You were great, Ray" at the very end? I couldn't tell because the camera wasn't on your face.

This is now my second favorite gameshow episode in history. The first is when my friend Scotty appeared on Family Double Dare. He struggled on the physical challenges (he couldn't catch a rubber chicken in a giant frying pan to save his life) and the obstacle course presented some real problems for him (finding the flag in the syrupy buttery mess atop an uber-waffle proved harder than it looks on tv).

we recently canceled our cable, so watching you on family feud was like drinking a cup of coffee after a week without caffeine. thanks for editing/posting!

Siôn,

1. It's just part of the Family Feud culture. It requires constant cheering and group affirmations. What you don't see on the video is that during each commercial break, the producer would rush over to the Berkeley podium and urge us to be MORE enthusiastic. I assure you that this level of enthusiasm is one that I've never since displayed (or felt).

2. Agreed

3. Agreed!

4. Yes! I never noticed that before yesterday, but I just rewatched a better version of the footage, and that is indeed what I'm saying. God knows why...

Yajeev, yes, that's me, inexplicably complimenting the host. And, you're welcome.

Now THAT is the ogblay I remember from NGHS rah! rah! yeah!

Though...your demeanor is quite a bit more self-assured on Family Feud than I recall from the nerd hang-out.

Your enthusiasm was a bit underwhelming, but for complimenting the host and wishing your opponent good luck, I'm going to give you 3.5 stars, which means it didn't suck nearly as bad as I thought it would.

Congratulations!!

Can't wait to see the next one. (And I mean that, unlike your phony, "You were great, Ray." I mean, come on. Seriously, what was up with that?) ;o)

Sue, that's because you didn't hang out with the nerds.

Avery, that is an 11 on the Mike Enthusiasm scale. I'll post the next one tomorrow night for your critique.

I used to love that show. This was fun to watch, and I have no comments about anyone's enthusiasm or lack thereof -- except I kind of wanted to stuff a sock in Cindy's mouth.

VS, I hear you about Cindy. She screamed every one of her answers. I think some people were genuinely excited.
