Holy crap! My mother-in-law has DSL! Sure, it's the clunkiest DSL I've ever seen, but I'll take it over the 17K dial-up I normally get here.

My time here at the computer is limited, so I'll keep this short. Today we went to one of the places where Hank spent many happy times with her family when she was a kid. We brought some of Hank's father's ashes and spread them throughout the gardens and theatrical areas. Hank, her sister, a family friend, and Daisy all pitched in, grabbing handfuls of ashes and spreading them around.

It was a bit surreal seeing Daisy cavalierly toss the ashes. Afterwards, she enthusiastically remarked, "I LOVE spreading ashes!". I suppose it's good that she didn't quite internalize the gravity of the situation.

In other news, Vermonters are freakin' bonkers for their maple syrup.

I'm reminded of the childhood song:

Ring around the rosies
A pocket full of posies
Ashes, ashes
we all fall down

That's like a real-life version of Around the Bend (with Christopher Walken) without the bad reviews. I was suspected it was no normal vacation, but it's cool it all worked out.

Daisy is so sweetly innocent. Great visual of her spreading ashes, injecting life and happiness into what can be such a hard and sombre occassion.

Your story reminded me of a funeral I recently went to where children, bored with the ceremony, were splashing their feet in the muddy puddles around the tombstones.

The last funeral that I attended, a drunk wondered in off the street and started singing, "I once knew a girl for Nan Tucket." Well, we all turned around, I laughed, and some other women shamed him with their whispers, and a few of the men escorted him out. Well the rest of the service, I had to sit and hold my giggles, which, by the way, isn't easy. Ashes, ashes, we all fall down.

that maple syrup is worth being bonkers for.

Ummmm....When I first read your post, I was shocked!...until I figured out that the DSL you were referring to has to do with her Internet connection and not her mouth.

Apparently inappropriate funeral occurrences aren't so rare! Thankfully I'm pretty ignorant of these ceremonies.

Crystal, what's the "other" kind of DSL?
