Hello new readers*,

Welcome to the All Sad Things Blog. Last time we covered the death of a family member. On today's agenda we have "Puppies With Cancer" and "Biting Into A Cookie That You Thought Was Going To Have Chocolate Chips But Instead Only Had Crappy Deceitful Raisins". It'll be a four-kleenex post.

Are the new readers gone yet? Good.

When sad things like death happen, my technique to deal with it is not to deal with it. I can eke out an "I'm so sorry" to the affected parties, but anything more soulful is a bit beyond me. Besides, who is going to believe me when I say something like "You'll be in my prayers" ?

So, Daisy and I have been emphasizing normalcy the last few days. Piano lessons, Tae Kwon Do, and all the other usual routines have been followed. This morning we got up and decided to go to our local diner for breakfast. After waking up Pablo with an ill-timed text message, we met up with him for a stroll to the diner.

Daisy digs her "Uncle" Pablo partially because he agrees to her every suggestion. Not only did he skip down the hill with her, hand-in-hand, but then after breakfast, at Daisy's urging, he attemped to race me home, running up the hill, while hoisting Daisy in his arms. I kicked their asses.

Normalcy is good.

That's a really cool picture, and I think Daisy's lucky to have a really cool daddy--although it would probably be nicer if YOU could skip, too.

Oh, do not fear, VS, I've done (and will continue to do) my fair share of skipping.

Running uphill carrying 45 lbs of cheerfully squealing 6 year old is positively invigorating!

I'll admit I was turning a little "code blue" at the top tho'.

The Baby is learning to skip and does not understand why I don't skip with him. Do you think, Pablo would make a trip to Arkansas to skip down a hill with the Baby? Daisy looks absolutely precious. I'm sure you are keeping her grounded during Hank's difficult times. By the way, I can top your puppies with cancer, yesterday, found a tadpole on my patio, really, a tadpole and I have no idea where it came from. It had it's two front feet out and little stubs for the back and it was so sad trying to survive in the hot sun, so the Baby and I put it in some bottled water, not in the bottle, and took it to the nearest creek, which is about two blocks from our house. When we turned him or her loose in the little creek, the Baby began to scream, "My tadpole." Well, it was way to late to rush into the creek and catch it, and there were no easy marks so I had to take the screaming child who had bonded with the tadpole home and try to explain that tadpoles are meant to live in the wild and can not be pets, but rolley polleies, well that's a different story. So, to end this rather boring tale, we caught a few rolly pollies and he now has them in a little bowl on my computer desk. Well, maybe puppies with cancer are much more tragic than a misplaced tadpole.

Pablo, you were the right man for that job. Frankly, the only way I'm going to beat you in a sprint is if I burden you down with 45 lbs of squeal.

Zelda1, sorry about Baby's "pet". Good luck with the rolly pollies. Ours died after a few days.

i was promised tales of oatmeal-raisin cookies. delicious, chewy, oatmeal cookies liberally salted with plump, succulent, raisins, and instead you pawn me off with pablo and skipping? (not that pablo isn't succulent, but it's not the same).

i'd be disappointed and and saddened if i didn't know you better.

Pablo rocks!

Re. cookies: More disappointing than Crappy Deceitful Raisin cookies are Crappy Rolly Polly cookies. I hate it when I am thinking I'm about to bite into a deliciously gooey chocolate chip and instead feel the crunch of a crispy exoskeleton. They kinda tickles as they go down the throat, too. Must be their legs.

Dolface, if you had updated your blog even once this month, I'd allow your suggestions on what I should or should not be posting about.

Nrd2, they are those little black bugs that roll up into a ball when they get scared. I've heard them called pill bugs or sow bugs.

JR, ewwwwww!
